For me, the high holy season of college football begins this Saturday when my school, my team takes to the field.
It is an acquired taste, not for everyone, though very important in my part of the world.
We start young, us southern boys, playing and dreaming as long and as far as our playing and dreaming will take us.
Throw in the generations of family men who played and dreamed before and will play and dream to come.
Mix in the atmosphere, the pageantry, the tastes, smells, drinks, sights and sounds.
Add the excitement, the energy, the contact, controlled violence.
Then you can see why it is in the blood. Then you can see why it is who we are.
My 3rd attempt at comment but my dodgy wifi hook-up is acting up today.
GF, that pic with Uga-1 I’m sure is the envy of the Peach State!
College Football is indeed a religion the Vince Dooleys, Bear Bryants, and Bobby Bowdens were minor deities in their day in your part of the world.
FYI: I grew up round the corner from Charlie “Choo-Choo” Justice who Frank Deford’s ‘Everybody’s All-American’ was based on. Have you read or seen the movie with Dennis Quaid & Jessica Lange?

That beautiful picture makes me yearn to pack up my family and move down South. The cowboys, the life, the football…
Football was not popular at Alconleigh and I grew up with no interest in it at all. Then I went to school in Dallas and one wknd someone produced tickets to a Cowboys game. My dorm room was right across the street from the old stadium so we popped over for something to do and it was wonderful. Exciting, entertaining, thrilling, etc (I am at a loss for clever prose as I am on my way out the door to take two teenage girls to the mall; the prospect of which has a deleterious effect on my soul) and Ive been a fan ever since. Patriot games are a cherished family event at our house and we are looking forward to the start of the season. Our neighbor was a coach in the pros and their son is the OC for the Saints so we have a special place in our hearts for New Orleans.
It’s almost here…
Did you draft your fantasy team yesterday?

We are a rugby family but I adore the pomp and circumstance surrounding football in the US. High School and College ball seem particularly appealing as it’s more about the game than the contract negotiations (or perhaps I’m being naive here.) And of course I’m always a fan of bulldogs. Go UGA.

Rugby is straight up the bomb. I never played but I have family and friends who did, and I sure do enjoy watching it, better men, and sometimes women, than me.
You are not naïve, and though the powers to be are doing their best to muck it up, that is joy and pleasure of the college game. Representing my boys and my own personal high point, the high school and middle school games will always remain closest to my heart…

So am I right to presume you are a Georgia bulldogs fan? We are not big on gridiron here as you know!

Dear Mrs. CSW
Good observation, Georgia is in my blood, many generations back for the family, no escaping it. If I remember right, you folks like your football pretty well, just a slightly different style…
